Nihal Apaydin, MD, PhD

Nihal Apaydin was born in August 12, 1976, Ankara. She was graduated from “Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine” in 2000. She started her medical proficiency in “Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Anatomy” in June 2002 and held her specialist in medicine degree in February 2005 with the thesis entitled “The macroscopic and microscopic anatomy of the gastroesophageal region and its clinical importance.” She had granted by Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Agency (TUBITAK) and spent a year at the St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies, as a visiting scientist in 2007-2008. She was appointed as a Visiting Professor in the same University for contributing teaching and research activities after 2009. She was promoted as an “Associate Professor of Anatomy” in 2010 and “Professor of Anatomy” in 2015. Meanwhile, she completed her second PhD in Neuroscience in 2015 with the thesis entitled “Evaluation of relation between time perception and reward processing in the brain with fMRI in patients with major depressive disorder”. She has more than 70 international publications in medical journals cited by SCI and more than 100 national and international presentations in scientific meetings and three national scientific awards. She is associate editor of peripheral nervous system section of “Surgical and Radiological Anatomy” since 2009. She is a member of Editorial Board of “Clinical Anatomy” since 2009 and of “Anatomy Research International” since 2011 and currently serving as an Editorial Board member in many other International Journals. She is the treasurer member of Executive Committee of Turkish Society of Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy and Council Member of European Association of Clinical Anatomy. She was the General Secretary of 4th ISCAA which was organized in Ankara in 2012 and General Secretary of Neuroscience Congress which was again organized in Ankara in 2016. She is currently vice director of Brain Research Center of Ankara University. She is interested in gross anatomy, clinical anatomy, neuroanatomy; especially brain and peripheral nervous system, and neuroimaging (fMRI). She is married and has one daughter.

Ayhan Cömert, MD

After his graduation from Ankara University, School of Medicine he was a research assistant in Ankara University, School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy. In 2007 he completed his specialization in Anatomy. He worked as an instructor at the same department and in June 2012 he was promoted to “Associate Professor of Anatomy” and joined the Faculty of Ankara University, School of Medicine, and Department of Anatomy where he currently works. Since 2013 he serves as Ankara University School of Medicine Erasmus vice Coordinator and since February 2015 as School of Medicine Erasmus Coordinator. In 2014 he was research fellow in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Skull base center, Surgical Neuroanatomy Lab, Skull Base Anatomy, Pittsburgh, USA.  As a researcher on surgical anatomy, in 2016, he visits and was working as an observing doctor for a month in Salzburger Landeskliniken – Universitätsklinikum Salzburg at the Universitätsklinik für Hals-Nasen-Ohren-Krankheiten, Salzburg, Austria. He is author or coauthor more than hundred international original peer-review papers, seven book chapters. He is a member of the European Association of Clinical Anatomy and served as Auditing Board Member of Turkish Society of Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy (TSACA) between 2014 and 2016.
He serves as associate editor of spine and medulla section of “Surgical and Radiological Anatomy” and is in editorial board and reviewer of many national or international journals. He was invited as a speaker in many international meetings and symposiums. His scientific fields of interest are surgical neuroanatomy, spinal anatomy, bone-implant biomechanics and clinical anatomy.


Mirela Eric, MD, PhD

Mirela Eric was born in Croatia in 1974. She graduated in Medicine in 1999 at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia. She received the MSc in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad, Serbia in 2004. She received PhD in Anatomy, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad, Serbia in 2010. In 2007, she finished her residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Clinical Center of Vojvodina, Novi Sad. She became Associate Professor in 2016. During academic year 2015/2016, she was elected as a favorite lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad. Dr. Eri? is a member of 7 Scientific Societies, a member of 3 Editorial Boards of scientific journals and reviewer in numerous international scientific journals. She has more than 180 published articles and abstracts. She was founder and a copresident of the “1st International Symposium of the Clinical and Applied Anatomy” that was held in Novi Sad, Serbia, September 17-19, 2009.


Georg Feigl, MD

Georg Feigl is a clinical anatomist, who graduated at the Karl-Franzens University Graz, had a short Swiss intermezzo in Geneva as an assistant to return to Graz and got his Venia docendi at the Medical University of Graz. His passion is to tease students by testing and teaching them, but also to research all questions raised by clinicians where he evaluate mainly by dissection. So his second living room is the dissection hall and his main hobby is Anatomy! He published about 55 papers in peer reviewed journals, is co-author of four books, received several awards for best teaching and scientific awards. However he still is hungry for more although having more than 900 contact hours with students and paramedicals.
Beside about 24h per day loving Anatomy, he loves being with his family Elisabeth and Maximilian, loves travelling, shooting photos and drawing…what? Anatomical pictures of course!


Fomin Nikolai Fedorovich,

Head of the Department of Operative Surgery (with topographic anatomy) of the Kirov Military Medical Academy (VMA), Colonel of Medical Service (1991), Doctor of Medical Sciences (1996), Professor (1997), Honored Scientist of Russia (2009). Has been heading the department since 1993.
He was born in November 13, 1949 in Alexandrovka village of the Borodino district of the Odessa region.
In 1967 he graduated with honors from the Odessa Medical School.
In 1973 he graduated from the VMA with a gold medal. At the end of the academy he was left in the Postgraduate School at the Department of Operative Surgery.
In 1978 he defended his thesis.
In 1996 he completed his doctoral thesis.
The author of about 400 scientific works, including 7 monographs, a number of textbooks, chapters of textbooks and manuals, has 10 copyright certificates for inventions and more than 70 rationalization proposals. Author and designer of a number of art publications dedicated to the history of the Academy.
He has prepared 22 candidates of medical sciences. Co-chairman of the Russian Association of Clinical Anatomists, a member of the editorial board of the journals “Morphology” and “Issues of Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery”; he was awarded for a series of works on mine-explosive trauma (in co-authorship with E.A. Nechaev, A.I. Gritsanov, I.P. Minnullin and V.M. Shapovalov).

Kagan Ilya Iosifovich - PhD, Professor,

organizer and permanent president of the Russian Association of Clinical Anatomists, Member of the British Association of Clinical Anatomists, Honorary Member of the Board of the Scientific Medical Society of Anatomists, Histologists and Embryologists, Member of the Coordination Council of the Association of Anatomists, Histologists and Embryologists of the CIS.
Ilya Iosifovich was born in October 10, 1929 in Minsk. The World War II led the family to Orenburg. I.I. Kagan graduated with honors in 1952, the Orenburg State Medical Academy (Chkalov State Medical Institute).
Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Kagan has been working at the Orenburg State Medical Academy since 1952. Since 1963, for 46 years, he has been in charge of the Department of Operative Surgery and Clinical Anatomy.
Professor I. I.Kagan is one of the leading and well-known scientists in the field of clinical anatomy and experimental surgery. Ilya Iosifovich is the head of a large scientific school of topographical anatomists and operational surgeons.
He is the author of more than 400 scientific papers published in domestic and foreign publications, 15 monographs and manuals, 49 patents and inventor's certificates.
Through his research, Professor I. I. Kagan made a significant scientific contribution to the study of the central nervous system blood flow, the development of clinical anatomy, the development of new microsurgical technologies. He developed the theoretical foundations of modern trends in clinical anatomy: microsurgical, instrumental/graphic, endoscopic. Together with the staff and scientists of the Academy proposed new microsurgical operations on the biliary ducts, gastrointestinal tract, bronchi.


Kapitonova Marina Yurievna, PhD, Professor

In 1981 graduated with honors from Volgograd State Medical University. From 1981 to 1990 - Assistant, from 1990 to 1999. - Docent. Since 1999 she is a professor and at the same time the head of the international department of the medical academy.
In 1986 she defended her Candidate thesis, and in 1999 - the Doctoral dissertation. In 1991 she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor, in 2000 - a Professor. Professor Kapitonova published over 110 works in the domestic and foreign press.
In the framework of scientific projects, Marina Yurievna has organized scientific cooperation between the departments of histology, cytology and embryology of the Volgograd State Medical University and the Department of Anatomy of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Sains Malaysia, Kelantan, Malaysia, published 17 joint papers and made 9 joint reports at international conferences.
Now Professor Kapitonova works as a Professor of Anatomy in Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia.

Parshin Vladimir Dmitrievich

is a PhD, Professor, Corresponding Member of RAN, thoracic surgeon, Head of the Thoracic Surgery Department of the Russian Scientific Center of Surgery named by Petrovsky B.V. He has more than 30 years of practical experience. Annually conducts more than 250 operations on the thorax. Professor Parshin published more than 250 scientific articles, including 5 monographs. He is a developer of unique techniques protected by patents of the Russian Federation, President of the Moscow Society of Thoracic Surgeons
Vladimir Dmitrievich carries out the whole range of modern operations on the thoracic organs, reconstructive operations on the larynx and trachea. In this sphere, he is one of the best specialists in Russia.
Professor Parshin teaches students of senior courses of the Sechenov University and surgeons from different parts of Russia.


Prof. Dr. Friedrich Paulsen

Prof. Dr. Friedrich Paulsen, born in 1965, studied medicine at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU), where he completed the State Examination. After working as a trainee at the university hospital’s department of oral and maxillofacial surgery and spending time as a physician-in-training at the university hospital’s ENT department, he moved to CAU’s Institute of Anatomy in 1998, where he had completed a doctoral degree in 1997, obtaining a habilitation in anatomy there in 2001. He was appointed as C3 professor of anatomy at Ludwig-Maximillians-Universität München and Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg in 2003. In Halle he founded Weiterbildungszentrum für Klinische Anatomie. After declining an offer of a W3 professorship at Saarland University, he was appointed as W3 professor of anatomy and institute director at FAU in 2010. He has since received and declined further offers from other renowned universities.

Professor Paulsen has received many research awards, including the Dr. Gerhard Mann Sicca Research Prize, the Sicca Research Prize awarded by Berufsverband der Augenärzte Deutschland and the Commemorative Medal of the Comenius University in Bratislava. He has also receive teaching prizes from CAU and FAU. His main areas of research are innate immune defence at the ocular surface and the causes of dry eye syndrome. He has spent time researching abroad in Spain and the United Kingdom. He is an editor of the journal Annals of Anatomy and the renowned Sobotta anatomy atlas.

Professor Paulsen contributes his expertise to a large number of committees. His is a member of the board and the secretary of Anatomische Gesellschaft, general secretary of the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA) and treasurer of the European Federation for Experimental Morphology (EFEM). He is also a member of the expert committee at the Institute for Medical and Pharmaceutical Examination Questions (IMPP) and a member of the expert advisory committee for anatomy of the Bavarian State Chamber of Physicians. He is also involved in various university committees, such as the Elections Committee, the Habilitation Committee, the Commission for Research and Young Researchers, and the Commission for Internationalisation. He is mentor for the Max Weber Programme Bayern (Elite Network of Bavaria/German National Academic Foundation) and the Erasmus+ co-ordinator for the Faculty of Medicine.

In his role as vice president, Professor Paulsen is responsible for teaching and learning at FAU. His term of office began on 1 August 2016 and ends on 31 March 2018.


Igor Vladimirovich Reshetov, PhD, Professor

Was born in May 29, 1964 in the Kharkov region. He graduated from the Second Moscow Medical Institute named by Pirogov N.I. In 1992 he defended his Candidate thesis, and in 1998 he completed his Doctoral dissertation on microsurgical reconstruction of organs and tissues of cancer patients. Corresponding Member of RAN. He is the head of the Plastic Surgery Center of the Sechenov First Medical University. Laureate of state and professional awards. The author of 58 patents for invention, including the USA and the European Union. Professor Reshetov is a recognized specialist in the field of reconstructive microsurgery of the European level.

Albert Sufiano

Professor, Ph.D, Chief physician of the Federal Center for Neurosurgery (Tyumen, Russia).

He was born on March 7, 1965 in Vikhorevka, Bratsk District, Irkutsk Region.
In 1989 he graduated with honors from the Irkutsk State Medical Institute.
From 1989 to 1991 he completed a full course in clinical residency at the Irkutsk State Medical Institute, specializing in Neurosurgery.
Professor Sufianov started his professional career in 1994 as a neurosurgeon of the surgical department in the Irkutsk Children's Clinical Hospital.
In 1996 he opened and headed the first in Irkutsk and one of the first in Russia branch of children's neurosurgery.
In 2014, Albert Sufianov opened and headed the first in the history of the Ural medicine department of neurosurgery with courses of neuroanesthesiology and neurorehabilitation of the Tyumen State Medical University.
In 2016, he created and headed the Department of Neurosurgery of the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. For the first time in the history of the First Moscow State Medical University, the unique clinical base of the department is located not in Moscow, but in the region.
Professor Sufianov is one of the most authoritative world neurosurgeons-practitioners, which is confirmed by his election the full member of the World Academy of Neurosurgeons in 2015 , numbering only 100 doctors all over the world.


René H. Fortelny M.D., F.E.B.S.

Prof. Dr. Fortelny is the Head of the Hernia Centre at the General, Visceral and Oncological Surgical department at the public teaching hospital, Wilhelminenspital, Medical University of Vienna. In addition to the specialisation of hernia surgery he is an expert in Minimal Invasive Visceral Surgery. After receiving the Medical Degree (MD) from the Medical University of Vienna in 1984 and completing Residency in General Surgery at Wilhelminenspital in 1993, he was awarded the board certification in General Surgery by the Austrian Society of Surgery. Since 1996 Dr. Fortelny is the Chief Resident of the surgical department.

In 2003 he founded the Experimental Hernia Group at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology in Vienna. Since 2010 he is Associate Professor at the Paracelsus Medical University of Salzburg. Prof. Fortelny is a founder member of the “Austrian Hernia Study Group” and currently the President of the Austrian Hernia Society. Under his leadership, several published experimental and clinical studies in hernia repair have been performed. Over the last decade, Prof. Fortelny has been invited, as a guest lecturer and has performed live surgery at many international hernia meetings. His specialisation in the topic of fixation by fibrin sealant has gained him recognition as an internationally approved expert. As a member of the scientific group EHS (European Hernia Society) as well as the IEHS (International Endoscopic Hernia Society) he coauthored both published Guidelines for Inguinal Hernia Repair and the recently published Guidelines of IEHS for laparoscopic treatment of ventral and incisional abdominal wall hernias.

Since 2016 Prof. Fortelny chairs the General Surgery at the Medical Faculty of Sigmund Freud University.
